Fishing For Tomorrow

Our Story

Fishing For Tomorrow was born from a combination of experience and passion.  I was born in South Africa and moved to the United States when I was fifteen.  I spent uncountable hours fishing South African waters from the local rivers to the Indian and Atlantic Oceans.  Freshwater, salt, deep, shallow, you name it I tried it.  Fishing was a big part of my youth and it is still with me.  Most importantly, and I did not realize this until later in life, it brought me closer to my family.  Days spent on the water were special, but it also gave me a hobby, a sport, a passion that the hours spent fishing flew by.  It gave me something to look forward to, no matter where I was and what I was doing.

Fishing was not something I was naturally drawn to, my dad dragged me along with him when I was quite young. I think he was born with a fishing rod in hand and died with one near his bed. Moving to Texas did not quell my passion for fishing. My family would go to the Gulf of Mexico and the local every chance we got. As an adult I don’t always have as much time to spend fishing but I never lost my passion for fishing and what it provided me.

Fishing For Tomorrow is a way for me to give back to my community, to introduce and pass on fishing to others. Hopefully to show somebody that has never fished what it can do for them. I want others to be able to experience the joy and pleasure brought by a day on the water catching fish.

Our Goals

Fishing For Tomorrow’s goal is twofold. The primary purpose of our non profit is taking underprivileged children and teenagers fishing with their families. We believe that children and teenagers benefit from strong bonds and connections with their parents and siblings. In my day job as a criminal defense attorney, ex prosecutor, and municipal judge I have seen first hand what can occur when family bonds are weakened. What can happen when families become overworked and financially stressed. When families don’t have the time and resources to spend on themselves spending quality time together.

While taking families fishing is definitely our primary goal, we feel that we can benefit the local fishing guide community as well. We are a Texas organization, we are on the Gulf Coast, and donations will be used to fish families from the local community. We are not padding our pockets, donations go to take families fishing. Fishing guides are some of the hardest working people I have met. With inflation and the cost of fuel and bait continually rising we want to help our guides by paying their charter rate keeping them doing what they do best. The more families we fish the more guides we will need and we will add new guides as we grow.
